AFAP manages the Australian-Pacific Centre for Emergency and Disaster Information (APCEDI) to provide news on natural disaster events in the Asia-Pacific region and to help with rapid disaster response assessment. This was originally a communications network that was activated during a disaster to disseminate information to our Asia-Pacific NGO offices. Now APCEDI has a much wider application across the Asia-Pacific Region.

APCEDI ALERT Tropical Storm Kerry (05F) #6, 2005: Tropical Storm Kerry Bears Down on Northern and Central Vanuatu

Tropical Storm Kerry is now bearing down on Northern and Central Vanuatu. The centre of the system currently lies about 100 east northeast of Maewo Island. It is still possible that it may gain Category 1 Cyclone strength before hitting Vanuatu, but it is forecast to hit as a Tropical Storm in its passage through Northern/Central Vanuatu. This should keep damage levels low to moderate in isolated places. Weak structures, gardens and crops are likely to be most affected.

The Fiji Meteorological Service continues to give Special Advisories on Vanuatu and continues to maintain a Strong Wind Warning for the Vatu-i-Ra Passage and Northern Yasawa and Northern Vanua Levu Waters.
